The voices of thousands of women from all walks of life echoed through the streets of the city of La Paz, Bolivia, adding to the millions from around the world that rose up as a single cry against violence and the capatalist, patriarchal, and colonial system. March 8, 2021 was a feminist explosion that exposed the State’s failure to guarantee women a life of dignity, free from violence and discrimination, with labor rights including equal pay for men and women and social security. The demonstrations were diverse, like the groups themselves, and filled the main plazas, streets, and avenues of the capital, defending the decision of women to break the silence and question the very roots of the capitalist system that oppressed them and perpetuates poverty and social exclusion. The voices of working women echoed communities around the world demanding the right to live in peace, an end to military interventions, war, and the illegal occupation of land, such as what the state of Israel is doing in Palestine. “For our dead, not a minute of silence, but a a life of fighting.”,“You will never be able to silence me.”, “Police and soldiers, state, we don’t believe you.”, “I am the indian and the farmer who fights to defend the land, my home, the water, and the food that sustains me.”, “Abortion, safe and free!” These were some of the messages that filled public spaces in the city of La Paz, which witnessed its boldest day of resistance in recent years, with a woman’s face.
