V International Action

Imagen

Every five years, the World March of Women connects the organizing processes and local struggles in a worldwide effort that is called the International Action. 2020 will be devoted to the development of the International Action, as well as to the commemoration of the first 20 years of the organization’s existence.
The international actions are the result of debates and consensuses where the points of encounter of the multiple realities of struggle and resistance are identified. For the V International Action, those points of encounter are the struggles against transnational corporations and their role within the capitalist system, especially their most recent offensives against life. Also, the V Action will be marked by the resistance to the rise of conservatism and authoritarianism in different parts of the world.
One of the most difficult tasks within the World March of Women is the construction of a common language, of slogans that could resonate in Africa and in Europe, that could mobilize people in Asia and in the Americas. The slogan “We resist to live, We march to transform” is the result of that collective construction and denotes the strength of the feminist organizations in being able to put the body against the assaults of the system but also, their capacity for creating proposals and making them a reality.
In the last meeting of the WMW The Americas, the delegations contributed to the V International Action. The region of the Americas emphasized the debate about how to dismantle the power of transnational corporations and their instrumentalization by neoliberalism to impose policies against life and in favor or the tyranny of the market.
The reflection situates transnational corporations as nodes of diverse power that are part of the industries, commerce, the extraction of raw materials, and the exploitation of natural resources. The chapters in the Americas have identified as a challenge, the translation to daily life of how transnational corporations are affecting the lives of all. Thinking about the strategy to make visible this pilferage of life is a task considered to be necessary in the region.
