Yildiz Temürtürkan talks about the next and 6th WMW International Action during meeting in Brazil
The panel discussion on MMM's 6th International Action was held during the activities of the 3rd National Meeting of WMW Brazil, in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. The international coordinator of the WMW, Yildiz Temürtürkan, spoke about the importance of understanding the changing dynamics of capitalism, challenging social movements and feminism to, more specifically, formulate new strategies of action from the territories. Yildiz said that recovering the political achievements of the World March of Women is fundamental for building the 6th International Action of 2025. “Next year, we will march against all forms of war, whether conventional or hybrid. We will march for sovereignty, for our bodies, our territories and for the good life,” she said. In this scenario, strong and forceful actions promoted in the places where feminists are organized are fundamental to being able to confront this system. Yildiz also commented on the new forms of colonialism at a global level, and on the advances of the extreme right, which promotes misogyny and lesbophobia, and causes the destruction of nature, as can be seen in the acceleration of climate change. All of this demands that the movements come up with new responses to the crises and build concrete alternatives to this predatory model. This elaboration must be collective, done in alliance with other anti-capitalist organizations, and have an impact at the local, regional and international levels. The 2025 action, like the one carried out in 2021, will be based on four pillars that are linked to the WMW's axes of struggle: 1) the defense of common goods against the exploitation of transnational corporations; 2) proposing a feminist economy as a concrete alternative to the capitalist economy, which is also patriarchal and racist; 3) the defense of feminist autonomy over women's bodies, sexualities and territories; 4) the fight against militarization and other forms of violence that ravaged territories around the world. For the MMM, feminist economics is an important tool of struggle for feminism because it reveals that power relations and economic organization are linked, so that it is necessary to “change the world and women's lives in one movement”, as the feminists of the March say. Considering the fourth axis of the 2025 International Action, it will begin in Western Sahara and end in Nepal. As in previous editions, it will begin on March 8, International Women's Day of Struggle, and end on October 17, International Day of Struggle against Poverty. Connecting feminist strength and the class struggle will be the premise of the action and its entire organizing process. Our 4th axis will be to confront the militarization of territories and women's lives. This is why we will begin our action on March 8, 2025 in Western Sahara. In all our actions, we start on March 8 and end on October 17. We always organize actions at local, national, regional and global levels. Connecting our feminist strength with feminism and the class struggle. “We are working to build a common symbol that will unite us as the World March of Women. We want to have tents all over the world. The tent has to do with the struggle for housing, which also has to do with climate change, caused by capitalism. Another meaning has to do with migration, and with the people and populations who migrate and are refugees all over the world. In many places around the world, such as Asia and Africa, we bring this symbolism of tents from the people's perspective. The tents also host our alternatives and debates, such as the feminist economy, agroecology, the defence of the commons,” said Yildiz. For Yildiz, in addition to organizing a strong International Action, which responds to the advances of the extreme right, we also want to bring back the memory of the life and struggles of comrades like Nalu Faria, whose trajectory was always marked by the construction of internationalist feminism on principle. Nalu Faria present, today and always.
